1972 H-D Drag Bike | Archive
Drag racer Jim Cibel’s purple top fuel machine graced our cover back in April of 1972. Displacements were much lower back then as evidenced by Jim’s motor being a 100-inch Shovelhead; that’s slightly smaller than the stockers you can buy off the showroom floor right now. Having said that, Cibel’s motorcycle is seriously stripped down for real-deal professional drag racing. The S&S carb and crankshaft aren’t stock items no matter what year it is!

Dubbed “Precision in Purple,” Cibel’s rocket ship had Ceriani forks.

It doesn’t get much more stripped down than a top fuel drag bike.

Just look at how tiny that gas tank is. Weight is the last thing you want when you’re running this kind of bike.
