The bikes you build
Jon Fate McGill (Tulare, California)
Our readers send in a wide range of custom motorcycles, from lightly tweaked to completely outrageous. And we thank you for it.
Seeing our reader’s rides is one of the funner parts of this job. Each print issue we get to bring you not only a gamut of custom iron from the professionals, but also a fair selection of scoots submitted to us by you guys. Readers rides are a staple of any good custom magazine. They show us what our readers are actually doing with their own bikes at home. Hopefully, they also inspire others to wrench on their own iron as well. If you want to see your bike here, email shots and description of it to us. While you’re waiting for the clock to let you out of work this Friday, check out these four reader customs straight from the pages of Hot Bike.

This is my 2004 FXDXI. It has Smokey Gold Metallic paint, which is a one-year-only color. I currently live in Okinawa, Japan, so I don’t get to ride long distances, but I do get to ride all year round. It has a Vance & Hines 2-into-1 exhaust, K&N air cleaner, Power Commander 3, Harley quarter fairing with Laminar lip, 8-inch risers with Biltwell Tracker bars, Leather Pro T sport bags, Harley floating rotors, black powdercoated fork sliders and wheels, and a fork brace that I fabricated. It is set up high and tight to combat the crazy Okinawa traffic where everyone is trying to kill you. It isn’t clean or pretty, but it gets the job done.
Joseph Kirby (Okinawa, Japan)

This is my 1998 Softail Bobber with mostly stock engine and frame, PM wheels, and Heartland fat tire kit. It’s called “Nasty Habits.”
Charles Lanoue (Ontario, Canada)

Here are some shots of my 2001 Pro Street. It has a 113-inch S&S motor, fed by S&S Super G carburetor, and the Martin Bros Medustas exhaust provides the perfect look with paint by Joe Martin. The frame is an Ultima 200 Softail. It has a 16-inch rear wheel and 21-inch front both wrapped in Vee Rubber. The fenders are customized and provide a unique look, and my gauges are Dakota Digital. I occasionally ride my bike to and from work (240 miles roundtrip) and get lots of thumbs-ups and compliments. I love my bike and have been reaching for your mag for years.

Here’s my 2002 883R with a 1200 conversion. I built this bike because I didn’t want to follow the FXR or Dyna trend that is so popular today. Plus, I have always liked the 883R paint scheme. Engine mods include Screamin’ Eagle Arias pistons, Mikuni carb, ‘W’ cams, Vance & Hines Pro Pipe, Pingel petcock, System 1 reusable oil filter, and Mr. Gasket air cleaner with a K&N filter. I also have color-matched H-D quarter fairing, custom-painted H-D Sportster hard bags, and powdercoated wheels. This little sporty is super quick and handles great with its Progressive 430 shocks, Speed Merchant fork adjusters, Lyndall brake pads, steering damper, and SuperBrace.
