When the Sturgis Buffalo Chip commissioned Klock Werks to customize a Victory for a special giveaway promotion to celebrate 30 years strong in Sturgis, the answer was a resounding yes! As a South Dakota native and 36-year veteran of the rally (yes, my dad took me when I was 8 years old!), it was truly an honor to be part of this special promotion. Just think, one lucky winner will be riding away from The Chip on Friday August 12 on this one-of-a-kind kustom and all they had to do was register for free by logging on to buffalochip.com. The Buffalo Chip has evolved into the largest music festival in motorcycling with concerts, camping, and even hosts Michael Lichter’s famed Motorcycles as Art exhibition. It seemed as the Buffalo Chip continues its evolution so too should Klock Werks; thus the involvement of our daughters, Erika (20) and Karlee (17), in the design of this bike. The fit with Victory was a natural, as well as the company being comprised of an enthusiastic group of riders who have a heart for the aftermarket and cutting-edge design as indicated by my wife Laura’s Victory Vision.
The girls (Erika and Karlee), Laura, and I decided to further our relationship with Sportech by incorporating its new SP Fairing onto the bike. The SP fairing has an edgy design and is MP3 compatible with the new audio package so it made perfect sense for this project. It was also at this point the girls decided to tip the fairing back as far as possible and relocate the gauge mount to help give the bike a sportier and more aggressive appearance. It was also decided to utilize Tsukayu saddlebags and a Bassani Road Rage 2-into-1 exhaust system. The call then went to Jesse Hahne of Sportech who generated the girls chosen graphics and parts into a great computer rendering for them to emulate.

One of the toughest challenges was sourcing the bags as it was difficult to contact anyone, they did not answer phones but only email. The girls wanted the bike to be an exact replica of the CAD drawing, which meant custom saddlebag mounts had to be fabricated to get the bags to sit nice and low and have a streamlined look to match the rear fender. The Bassani exhaust mounted up without a hitch and exits just at the bottom of the right side saddlebag, which helps add to the extended look of the original Kingpin. Of course, the girls wanted it to be louder!
James Mayer of Top Jimmy Custom Paint (another South Dakotan) assisted the team in completing the project by spraying coats of PPG black and GEICO yellow along with laying out the Buffalo Chip and Klock Werks logos. The finishing details were the GEICO Gecko and of course a “9ine Ball.” For a project that came together in a short period, it makes a great little tourer that has a quick-detach fairing and bags, as well as all the stock creature comforts you’d expect on a mini bagger including floorboards.
It now sounds as muscular as it looks and proved to be a great first project that some lucky person will take home just by registering at buffalochip.com. Hopefully, whoever wins this bike will bring it back to Sturgis next year for the Buffalo Chip’s 31st anniversary! Gotta love South Dakota in early August—see you all there! HB
