J&P Cycles Called Upon by “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”

Anamosa, IA Oct. 10, 2011 - Every once in a while you get a chance to make a difference in another person’s life. On Oct. 4, a call like that came into J&P; Cycles by a producer from the hit ABC television show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” and given such a chance. The weekly television show takes a deserving family and rebuilds their house in a single week. Last week (the week of Oct. 3), the ABC crew found itself in West Union, Iowa (about an hour and half north of J&P; Cycles’ World Headquarters in Anamosa, Iowa) to surprise Audrey Gibbs and her six children.
Seven months after her husband died, Audrey had a brain aneurism that affected a quarter of her brain – leaving her legally blind. The doctors cannot say if she is going to lose her sight completely or even if she is going to live or die. Audrey has always been pragmatic and has no time for self-pity. She is passionately committed to do whatever it takes to raise her kids. Realizing she could not continue working as a cosmetologist, Audrey decided to attend massage therapy classes as she knew it was a career she could still practice after losing her sight. However, Audrey does worry about what will happen to her kids – should the worst happen. The Gibbs family own and live on a farm which they rent portions of to local farmers for additional income. Their farmhouse is in need of significant repair with no working toilet, a ceiling that is caving in and a layout that does not work for the family – especially Audrey if she completely loses her eyesight.
To make this story closer to our hearts here at J&P; Cycles, the family is motorcycle enthusiasts. This is when J&P; Cycles was called in to help on a very special project for the Gibbs family. We can’t reveal any details on how we’re involved quite yet, but don’t worry – we’ve videotaped the entire thing so you’ll see it. We’ll have more content for you in the future, so pay attention to your email inbox and our J&P; Cycles’ Facebook page for more information.
In the meantime we wanted to make our friends aware that the community is trying to raise funds for the Gibbs family future medical and other expenses. If you would like to donate, you can visit the project’s donation page to do so securely through their website.
For those who ride, you know that the motorcycling community has always been one to quickly come to the aid of another. As motorcyclists, this is just another way the community is helping one of its own. For more information on the Gibbs’ family story please see: .
