More Readers Rides
Readers rides are a staple of any good custom magazine. They show us what our readers are actually doing with their own bikes at home. Hopefully, they also inspire others to wrench on their own iron as well. Here are a few homegrown Harleys for your mind to munch on.

I finally finished my 2012 Dyna Street Bob. It has hand-painted checkers (not decals), Hog Pro wheels, lots of powdercoating, side covers, and 21-inch front and 19-inch rear tires both with whitewalls. The color is House of Kolor fluorescent orange that is hard to capture in the photos. There is also red pinstriping along the checkered stripes. I think it’s pretty unique yet still all Harley.

This is the first ground-up custom I’ve built. I call it the Panhandler. It’s a 93-inch S&S Panhead motor that pushes a five-speed shifted with a stick. The bars are Clean by Design. It also uses an auto clutch, so you can stop in any gear. Your right foot operates a pair of four-piston calipers each with its own adjustable master cylinder. The frame is a Kraft Tech 34-degree with another 3 degrees built into the tree to keep the trail in line. It handles good! Finally, my wife and I braided the rear strut with three 10-foot sections of red-hot steel rod.

I live in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Canada, and a buddy and I refurbish a few bikes in the cold winter months. We’ve done a couple of Dynas, and this winter we’re restoring a couple of shovels. It’s just hobby stuff in a backyard garage—nothing like the awesome stuff usually in your magazine. Here is a 2001 FXDXT that was in rough shape and had been laid down and left outside that I restored with a XR-themed paint. I also have 17 bikes that range from a ’74 Ironhead Chopper, a flamed 1980 FXWG and Evo FXRT, Buell Firebolt all the way up to a 2013 Road Glide. I usually manage to burn a tank or two of fuel in each bike every year despite our short season.

This is my 2006 Big Dog Pit Bull. Unlike most rigid pro streetbikes, this one is not only displayed at shows but is also ridden! I started with a set of grips and pegs from Vicious Cycle Works. It now has a polished S&S Super G carb with trick maltase cross air cleaner and choke knob. I also added some Arlen Ness mirrors and a Super Lizard Maximus LED light kit for the night riding to draw attention. I added the Vance & Hines pipes that have been dyno’d at 102 hp. My wife, Linda, and I ride every chance we get and have never had a problem.

I bought the bike as a 1999 Buell X1 Lightning. It took 16 months to design and build it into what it is today. It has an Andrews cam, Dyna 2000 ignition, modified CV carb, 221 pipes by Tim Bradham Cycles (TBC), Screamin’ Eagle forced intake, 2013 “High Seas” monoshock frame, girder forks, floating rotor, Tokico calipers, Brembo master cylinders, Murderace tank by TBC, oval aircraft oil tank, Front Street Cycle fender, TBC F—k ’Em bars, Robbie Lynch at TBC did the painter/graphics, Jesse “Pops” Denman the pinstriping, and Frank Enriquez from Modern Design Customs did the powdercoating.
