Stretched, Cut, And Styled
My favorite dive bar in the world is called Johnny’s Saloon in Huntington Beach, California. Sprawling in big white letters on their sign above the door is the saying “Thank a veteran for your freedom.” More often than not, as we stroll about our day carefree, we lose sight of where the freedom we enjoy came from. Freedom, after all, isn’t free and it’s veterans like Victor Fierro who have proudly served that we have to thank.
After a long and proud career, including 21 years active duty in the US Army and six years in the National Guard, Victor retired with 27 years of faithful service to our country. Like many that have proudly served, his goal, once retired, was to finally build his 2007 Street Glide to reflect his love of American motorcycles, done up in a West Coast style. “I bought my ’07 Street Glide while I was still in the military. I first wanted it to be just a touring bike and travel, but I had a passion to build and customize it. When I retired from the military I finally had the time to start customizing my bike. I started by taking it to Fineline Cycles to have it painted and add a stretched fender and extended bags. I also had them install front and rear air ride.”
Finally with both time and a little bit of money saved up, the customizing bug got the better of Victor and the work snowballed. Engraving is a lot like a bag of potato chips — once you get a taste for a few pieces, it’s like you can’t stop until you’re almost out of metal. “I decided to have my chrome engraved, so I took it to Engrave It Inc. Hernan did a beautiful job.”
Once Victor’s bike was more etched up than a grade school calligraphy test, the paint lacked a little something and had the bike looking good, but not quite great. Maxima Imagen’s name might sound like some sort of single-mom import car, but around these parts, owner Edgar Rodriquez is well respected for pumping out some of the best-looking lowrider-style paintjobs on both two and four wheels. “My brother and friends kept telling me to put graphics on my bike, so I took it Maxima Imagen and told Edgar to do as he see fit. The graphics came out great and I was very happy with the work. I also had them put on the bottom of the rear fender ‘In Loving Memory’ of my Dad and brother.”
With the bike finally finished the way Victor wanted, he fired up the bike and rolled out to hit the streets of Southern California in style. With the bike of his dreams finally between his legs, Victor is now able to enjoy some of that well deserved freedom he helped to create. As Johnny would instruct us to do, thank you Victor for all your years of service.
