From Aussie to Sturgis

Finally sorted my custom Sportster I built from a 2001 883 custom. Not much remains of the original bike after adding the Buell XB-12 front end with anodized gold fork tubes and clip-ons, a ’75 gas tank, custom seat, and fabricated rear fender. Even the motor got a Hammer Performance 1,250cc kit and heads with .560 lift cams and a 42 Mikuni carb, Kuryakyn Velocity intake feeding it, and SuperTrapp 2-into-1 exhaust. It’s also converted to chain drive with Galfer rotors front and rear helping it stop. Canyon carving is aided by Chainsikle rearsets and gear shift kit. Custom Paint and decals finish it off. I’m riding it to Sturgis this year from LA, with a mate riding my ’89 FXR and another mate riding an ex-police ’07 Road King. We’re all flying in from Australia (home) for this road trip. Cheers! —Mike, Australia

Resur-wreck-tion

It started out as a wrecked 1991 FXSTS. Now it has a 107 Ultima with Mikuni HSR45, Ultima six-speed overdrive transmission, Porker pipes, JayBrake up font, Ultima two-piston on back, and too much else to list. I finally got it registered four years to the day that I wrecked it. The only Harley part left is the springer front end. Everything from the wheels to the wiring is aftermarket and all done by me. The paint was done by Doug Carr Auto Body and powdercoating by Scott Brown. —David Leabo, Sierra Vista, AZ

Anabolic Sporty

I’m one of the few, the proud who owns one of these Sportsters on steroids! Here’s my 2011 Harley Sportster XR1200X, which I flew out to Texas to pick up in March. It took me six months to find a super-clean, low-mile, one-owner specimen. I took this completely bone stocker and immediately went to work. I custom fabbed and stretched an XL model Roland Sands Slant 2-into-1 exhaust pipe then had mounts welded to the frame to install factory mid-controls with a custom rear brake designed by yours truly. I had a custom carbon-fiber seat made by “The Seat Guy” in Santa Ana, California, LA Choppers 2-inch risers, and a Memphis Shades windshield just to mention a few. I just did a 1,000-mile four-day ride on Route 66 to the 35th Annual Laughlin River Run. My baby performed flawlessly! —Dave DeWitt, Lake Forest, CA
