How does 110 miles with 378 curves in three and a half hours sound? Oh yes, did we mention a working FREE ferry to take you from one side of Bull Shoals Lake to the other? Well, we think it’s a pretty good indicator of a ride worth pursuing. That’s just the tip of the iceburg when you start and finish your ride from Harrison, Arkansas.

If you think a cheap thrill is a good one, then Bull Shoals Lake has the cruise for you. The Peel Ferry Route starts from Harrison on Scenic Highway 7 heading north. You’ll travel through Bergman and South Lead Hill before turning right on Arkansas Highway 14. Just before you get to South Lead Hill, you will drop off Kirk Mountain. You’ll know when you are there. Shortly after crossing the county line into Marion County, you’ll see Highway 268. Take that road and follow the signs to Peel. You’re now on Highway 125.

The free ferry came about after the creation of Bull Shoals Lake in the 1950’s, and is the last public ferry in the state. It has operated continuously by the Arkansas Highway Department ever since. There is no charge for this 20 minute ride and you’re likely to meet some new friends, both in cars and on bikes.

When you reach the other side of Bull Shoals Lake, you are just a few miles from Missouri and still on Highway 125. When you get to Rutter, turn left on US Hwy. 160 towards Kissee Mills and then take a left turn onto Missouri Hwy. 76 before you get to Forsyth and head to Branson. When you get into Branson, you are now on 76 Country Music Boulevard.

The Country Music Capital of the Midwest, Branson has just about anything you want, including shopping at Branson Landing with a Bass Pro Shops on one end and a Belk Department Store on the other. There is a fantastic water fountain in the middle of the mile-long shopping and dining “mecca” that dazzles guests at the top of every hour starting at noon each day. There are over 30 shows of all kinds up and down the 76 Strip and dining options of all varieties. Branson is a one-of-a-kind place, just thirty minutes north of Harrison on US Hwy. 65.

If time permits, a short jaunt on Arkansas Highway 14 (east) at Omaha to the Ozark Medieval Fortress allows a nice change of pace. Watch for the signs after you cross the state line back into Arkansas. The castle is a working model from the French past and is not expected to be completed for another 20 years. (there is a charge to see the castle) No modern tools are being used to build this life-sized unique castle. Visit www.OzarkMedievalFortress.com for more detailed information.
