FORGED–Brittney Olsen’s Modern-Meets-Classic Indian Scout
We’re back with part two of Indian Motorcycle’s 2024 FORGED Series, highlighting vintage motorcycle enthusiast, Brittney Olsen from 20th Century Racing.
This year’s FORGED Series, focusing on the 2025 Indian Scout, is hosted by Roland Sands from Roland Sands Design, who was tasked with not only building his own custom Scout, but he’ll also be the ringleader in charge of finding two other custom builders up for the challenge. You may remember Carey Hart was tasked with this role last year with the Sport Chief platform.
Designed with customization in mind, the all-new Indian Scout is a bike born from icons and ridden by legends. Each build in this sophomore effort of the FORGED Series is rooted in a historical figure, machine, or era of inspiration taken from Scout’s 100-plus-year history – highlighting icons of the past, through the eyes of today’s legends.
In this second part of Indian Motorcycle’s FORGED Series, we get into the new modern-meets-classic concept from Brittney Olsen, a vintage motorcycle aficionado who builds and races vintage bikes in many forms and is no stranger to making very cool motorcycles.
Brittney is also a huge history buff and definitely admires the ladies that helped blaze the two-wheeled trail in the past, especially drawing inspiration from the women riders of the early ‘40s and early ‘50s.
“Every time you see these iconic pictures of women racing and riding and thrashing on their Indian motorcycles, they all have smiles,” Brittney says.
Brittney is well known for restoring–and racing–vintage motorcycles. We’re talking early 20th century vintage racing. But Brittney is so much more than that–she’s a builder, fabricator, welder, you name it. She can literally do anything to make a two-wheeled machine run, and run extremely well. After all, you don’t win races with a pile of junk, right? Because of her expertise with pre-modern-era motorcycles, Roland thought it would be cool to include Brittney in the FORGED program, giving her a modern-day Scout to see where she would go with it.
Brittney’s Scout will be focused on delivering old-school aesthetics with modern performance and technology. There’s one image that’s ingrained in Brittney’s brain of Cecilia Adams and her period-correct Indian Scout custom. Brittney says that bike is what inspired her to take on the all-new Scout.
“That’s what I hope to do in the 21st Century,” Brittney says. “I hope to be like Cecilia Adams.”
Roland headed to Brittney’s hometown in South Dakota, to get the skinny idea on her vision and where she’ll take the modern machine. Brittney had the bike somewhat stripped down and was ready to rock ‘n’ roll. Without giving it all away, you can expect a classic Indian Scout girder frontend, some Flanders bars, potentially a Chief fuel tank with iconic teardrop shape and a bunch of other goodies related to Brittney’s style.
“The options are endless,” Brittney says. “There are so many new ways that you can customize this new Scout.”
We’re excited to see the reveal of Brittney’s vintage-meets-modern Indian Scout. Stay tuned for the last piece to the 2024 FORGED puzzle where we highlight Swedish customizer, Ronna Noren, from Unique Custom Cycles (backlink).
