Harley-Davidson Softail FXDR 114
Say hello to the fastest kid in the family: the Harley-Davidson FXDR 114 is the Softail that’s inspired by dragbikes and fighter jets. The tenth model in the new generation Softail line shares the same chassis and Milwaukee-Eight power plant as its siblings, but throws in a pile of performance upgrades underneath a swoopy, jet-fighter-inspired aesthetic. And to cement its power cruiser purpose, the FXDR is the one Softail available with a 114 c.i. engine only.
Thanks to a stretched, 4.4-gallon fuel tank and a race-inspired chin fairing, the Harley Softail FXDR 114 may have a long and low look but in fact, this dragster has more cornering clearance than the other Softails. With signature features like a 240-section rear tire and a forward-facing air intake influenced by Harley’s own drag bikes, you might miss other, less noticeable up-spec components, like a new aluminum swingarm that cuts 10.2 pounds from the chassis, carbon fiber fenders, and a higher position for the Softail-spec, adjustable monoshock.
The Harley FXDR 114 also benefits from a 43mm inverted Showa fork with single-cartridge damping that brackets a lightweight, thin-spoked 19-inch aluminum wheel stopped by dual front brakes. As we mentioned earlier, the FXDR 114 comes with the fierce power of the burly Milwaukee-Eight 114 engine, the biggest on any of the current Softail models. That 1868cc engine puts out an impressive claimed 90 hp and 119 lb-ft of peak torque, with gasses being exhausted by a massive, upswept pipe. Want big V-twin performance? Take a look at the FXDR 114.
Pros: True performance cred with a wickedly powerful Milwaukee-Eight 114 engine, lighter weight and increased cornering clearance, with one-of-a kind styling.
Cons: Expensive; Forward controls feel counterintuitive on a bike that’s performance-oriented.
