A shoutout to the ladies who ride

Today we are giving a shout-out to all you women riders. My ol’ lady ride, and rode for nine years before she got stuck with me. She rides like a champ and lives for being “in the wind.” Dating a girl who rides is a trip. She doesn’t want jewelry; she wants new parts for her bike. She doesn’t want to go shopping on her days off; she wants to go find some twisty back roads. When we started talking about getting married, she said, “Please don’t get me a big stupid diamond ring. It’s just going to make it a pain in the ass to get my gloves on and off.” The first fight we got into was because she did a burnout, and I said, half serious, “I guess now that you got me to take care of that clutch and tire you can let it all hang out now, huh?” Her response? “You worry about your own bike, and I’ll worry about mine.” That sure as hell shut me up.
Another memory we laugh about now that wasn’t too funny at the time was the day she woke up a little late and had plans to go ride with some friends. Instead of waking up to the sound of her scrambling some eggs, I woke up to her scrambling around getting her gear on. I said, “I don’t smell any pancakes, babe” She said, “Yep, you’re on your own this morning, honey. I’ve gotta meet the girls in 30 minutes, so I’m out.” And then she pulled out of the driveway and gave me a couple quick “haha” revs as she ripped down the street. I laid there hungry, pissed, and mumbled to the dogs, “How many times do I have to tell her to let the bike warm up before she takes off?” The dogs were looking at me like, “Damn, fool. You just got left hanging with no breakfast.”
Before we hooked up I don’t remember seeing so many women on their own bikes. Now that I’m deeply exposed to it, I’m noticing a rad scene is now building within the younger female riding ranks. These girls are putting on and supporting their own events like Babes in Borrego, which was a women-only ride and camp in the Southern California desert. Ladies of all ages rode out from all over the country for it, and they all had so much fun that they decided to make it an annual event. Nice work, ladies!
