DRAG RACING | NHRA Las Vegas April 1-3, 2016
If you have never had the opportunity to attend a National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) event, add it to your bucket list of motorsports events. While NHRA focuses mainly on the four wheel vehicles of all sizes and shapes, each round also has it’s own set of motorcycle races.
The Denso Spark Plugs NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway took place this past weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect with temperatures being hot during the day, and cool in the evenings. The Pro Stock Motorcycle had a pass on the weekend, but that allowed the attention be focused on the Nitro Harley bikes. While the cars have steel cages and years of development of safety equipment, the Nitro bikes had only a leather suit to protect them as they traveled down the 1/4 mile track reaching speeds of over 220+ MPH at the mid 6 seconds mark. Other’s may think that MotoGP riders are the fastest on two wheels, but nothing compares to the speeds that these riders achieve. After the dust settled and after a broken motor during the burnout, it was the ASB Racing bike taking home the final win on Sunday.
