Carlos Mendez’s 2022 Harley Low Rider ST
If you’re going to represent your brand, you better come correct, right? That’s definitely what Plex Audio was thinking when they envisioned this very cool 2022 Harley-Davidson Low Rider ST that would serve as the company’s guinea pig/calling card to showcase its newest products as well as its owner, Carlos Mendez’s style.
“We wanted to build a bike that we could bring with us and display at our booth at various shows across the nation,” says Carlos. “What started as a ‘let’s build a simple product demo bike’ quickly snowballed into this monster of a build.” Now, Plex Audio was becoming known for making speaker systems for “smaller” bikes that pack enough punch to rival most baggers out there.
Once the crew decided they were going “all-in” on the build like The Bachelor come Fantasy Suite weekend, the goal was to put together a Low Rider ST that would literally stop people in their tracks as they walked by it.
“We knew that to achieve a WTF reaction from people we had to be the first ones to throw on a Trask Turbo Kit on the Low Rider ST,” says Carlos. “We also knew we needed someone extremely talented to paint this thing and Seth at Aggressive Designs was more than ready for the challenge.” Seth was given broad idea of what Carlos and company were after, but beyond that, he had free rein. The result was a showstopping custom Softail that Carlos was beyond stoked to receive.
Trying to build this bike in a short amount of time in the worst time in this industry was a massive headache. Everyone and everything was back-ordered as they recovered from the supply shortages brought on by COVID-19.
“We took the bike over to Bikes Blues and BBQ in Arkansas just days after the build was released and the reaction we got was exactly what we had hoped for,” Carlos said. “The crowds of people circling around the bike all weekend long taking pictures and nervously laughing when they first looked at it was well worth every penny spent.”
When Harley came out with the El Diablo paint scheme Carlos felt like it was lacking big time, especially with a name like that. He wanted to create something more deserving of the dark lord of the underworld.
Carlos and the Plex Audio crew would like to thank Caleb, Nick, Josh, and Charles at Orlando Harley for all their help putting this project together for us. Seth over at Aggressive Designs for the next level paint job. True and Steph over at True Performance for getting us all our parts as fast as humanly possible. Jason “Chopskee” Soria for all the amazing content including the pictures we are sharing with you.
For those of you who are considering building a custom bike as well, Carols will leave you with this one little chestnut: “Don’t try to build a bike in a post pandemic world unless you have more patience than someone at the DMV without an appointment.”
