Don’t Miss the Mayor’s Ride and Pub Crawl at Sturgis Motorcycle Rally
Two events you can count on every year at the Sturgis Motorycle Rally are the Mayor’s Ride and the Mayor’s Pub Crawl. Just not at the same time. I’m sure the last thing Mayor Mark Carstensen wants is leading us all to a bunch of bars, followed by a drunk group ride, both with his office attached to them. Hosting the Mayor’s Ride on Monday, August 7 followed by the Pub Crawl August 8 is probably the best order for the events.
All joking aside, what the city and mayor actually do like to see is all of us enjoying what the town has to offer each year. Jack Daniels and the City of Sturgis are excited to be hosting the 15th Annual Sturgis Mayor’s Ride during the 77th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. This ride has been a special part of the Sturgis Motorcyle Rally, not only for the amazing beauty of the Black Hills but because it brings people together from all over the world (and lures them back year after year). Proceeds from the ride have always gone back to the town’s emergency services, supporting the men and women who dedicate so much time to Rally Week to give aid and keep everyone safe.
Former Mayor Mark Ziegler started the ride in 2003. Since then, the late Mayor Maury Larue and current Mayor Carstensen have kept it going. It was started with a route stopping at Mount Rushmore for a group picture but has also enjoyed the beauty of Crazy Horse Memorial and the Center of the Nation Visitor Center in Belle Fourche.
This year, join Mayor Carstensen along with Rally Grand Marshal Jessi Combs on this celebratory ride through the beautiful Black Hills. There’ll be a stop at Mount Rushmore, just like the first ride, for the traditional group picture, and the ride ends in Custer State Park for a luncheon hosted by the mayor.
Participants will receive a souvenir pack, including a limited-edition Jack Daniels decanter signed by the mayor, a 15th annual T-shirt, Mayor’s Ride pin, and other collectibles provided by the sponsors.
In recognition of the 15th year, the city will also be holding a drawing among the participants with the winner being a VIP guest of the mayor for his pub crawl on Tuesday, August 8. Cost is $150 (plus tax).
Speaking of the pub crawl…
There’s nothing more enjoyable than sharing a few cold beverages with some of the stars of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and the City of Riders’ own Mayor Carstensen. Join them for the annual Sturgis Mayor’s Legends Pub Crawl on Tuesday, August 8 at 7 p.m. at Main Street and Harley-Davidson Way.
The annual pub crawl allows participants to visit some of the iconic bars of the Sturgis downtown while enjoying cold beverages and meeting legends and good friends along the way. Rub shoulders with some of the past and current legends of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, and raise your glass to another great rally in the City of Riders.
