Hammerhead Designs CNC brake and shift lever install
In the never-ending quest to modify our bikes, a few components have been left out of the fray. Until recently we have had to just paint or powdercoat our stock shift and brake arms and maybe even hack them up to look and feel more custom before doing so. Well, that was until the folks at Hammerhead Designs got crafty with their CNC machines and came out with some of the most beautifully carved aluminum brake and shift arms money can buy.
Hammerhead has been making tons of badass parts for dirt bikes and streetbikes, so when we got word that they were making parts for Harleys we had to make a call and get some! When the “Brown Santa” UPS driver dropped off the box a few days later we were very keen on the quality and craftsmanship of the 6061 T6 aluminum components, and we loved the fact that we could customize them with different colors and styles to suit our bike’s scheme and our personal riding style.
The shift levers can be custom tailored using different offset tips that range from -5mm shorter than stock, 0mm (stock), +5mm, +10mm, all the way to +20mm longer than stock. The brake lever comes complete with a self-lubricating Oilite bronze bushing and stainless-steel mounting hardware.
As you can see, the stuff looks great, but after we installed them, we figured out that massive amounts of R&D went into them as well. Here’s how it went.

Both the brake and shift arms from Hammerhead are modular and have many styles and colors of pedals and pegs to choose from. There are even spring-loaded moto-style breakaway versions with different height traction screws available.

The shift arm’s design is well thought out with a replaceable spline insert made from hardened aluminum.
