2000 Harley-Davidson Softail

When it comes to building the bike of your dreams, we often seek multiple avenues for inspiration. Whether it be the pages of Hot Bike magazine, your favorite Instagram account or Facebook page, or sometimes right in your own home, once the bike bug has bit, it’s hard to ignore the sting. Most of us would love to walk into the local dealer, lay down a lump of cash, and then ride a no-mile bike right over to our favorite shop to make it a one of kind. But until the lottery hits, most of us have to look into the garage and start with what ya got when starting a custom build.

The owner of this 2000 Harley-Davidson Softail, Alex Munoz, is part of a club of like-minded riders called the Hurley Hogs. The Hurley Hogs are a rolling bike show and comprised of some of the nicest lowrider-style motorcycles anywhere in the world.

Alex explains how he got his personal custom Vicla got started: “It all started seven years ago when my brother Miguel brought home his 2006 Supercharged Softail Springer. At the time it was the most beautiful Harley I had ever seen in my life. After falling in love at first sight, I thought to myself that’s what I need in my life!”

Family and friends tend to have a domino effect on the kickoff bike ownership, and his brother’s Springer was no different. Alex explains, “After my brother brought home his bike, it was only a year later that I bought my 2000 Softail. It was in good shape when I got it, but like most everyone else, it wasn’t long before I started throwing money at it.”

Alex rode the bike semi-custom for several years before he decided he was looking for something more. “A few years had gone by, and I found myself thinking it was time for a bagger,” Alex says. “The problem now was that this bike and I had gone through some great times and not to mention some near misses. There was no way I could get rid of it, nor did I want to ride something else!”
So rather than start from the ground up, Alex added the last pieces to the puzzle. He added a 26-inch front wheel, hard bags wrapped in leather from Beto at Broken Horn Saddle Repair Shop in Baldwin Park, and capped it all off with classic traditional lowrider paint. A true Vicla is all about the style, and there are few and far between who know the right way to make a paint statement like Manny Cisneros, CSNRS, out of San Diego, California.

The moral of the story is that once you find your vision of what type of custom you think you need in your life, there’s no need to start from new. Often, if you start with what you got and have a clear goal in mind, with the help of a few good friends and sources of inspiration (like Hot Bike), it won’t be long before you’re rolling with your homies on your dream ride. “I had a vision, and with the help of a few friends I put this bike together and I’m enjoying it every day of my life,” Alex concludes.
