This Road Glide named “The Red October” appears to be nearly new off the showroom floor at first glance. In fact, it’s a 2001 that has gone extensive updating. For starters, the motor has been punched out to 114 inches, including Screamin’ Eagle heads, ported by the world-famous Larry Hardy. A Horsepower Inc. throttle body feeds the increase in cylinder flow and is exported back out through a set of D&D exhausts, with some help of course from a Power Commander.

The wheel and brake combination is where the meeting of the minds came together for this Road Glide. Primo Cali wheels give the illusion of fat laced wires but with the strength and style of a billet wheel. Add a black powdercoated lip and you’ve got a look of both classy and custom at the same damn time.

Riding in Southern California is not for the faint at heart, as there are literally millions of drivers texting and talking on the road. Motorcycles around these parts require great brakes, and rather than rely on factory rotors and calipers, SH borrowed a page from the sportbike parts catalog. Tokico might not be a name you’re familiar with, but it has been stopping performance bikes for decades. With some help from another independent motorcycle shop, The Speed Merchant, the Tokico techs came up with a bracket to mount the calipers to the stock Harley forks. Finally, thrown in are a handful of SH shop-made parts like blacked-out gauges only visible when the bike is on, billet bag latches, cam sliders, and axle covers.

Rather than taking a new bike off the showroom floor and replacing bolt-on bits, Strictly Hawgs found ways to build, modify, and create a bike that not only looks factory fresh but holds its own against anything in or out of a dealership. So before you trade in the ol’ school for a bike fresh out of the crate, maybe try and give a local independent shop a shot at recreating the custom, local style.
