Simpson Helmets and Buell Motorcycle Carbon Mod Bandit Collab

Two legendary American performance brands—Simpson Motorcycle Helmets and Buell Motorcycle Co.—have joined forces to launch a limited-edition Mod Bandit helmet that’s as bold as the bikes it was inspired by. Set to debut at the 2025 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, the Simpson x Buell Mod Bandit combines cutting-edge materials, a striking visual design, and rider-focused features that make it a perfect match for Buell and V-twin fans overall. Preorders begin August 1 exclusively through the Simpson Motorcycle Helmets website.
This exclusive helmet features a forged carbon fiber shell—each with a unique finish—topped with hand-laid pinstriping by Bob Smutz of Flyin’ Kolors. Smutz, a custom paint veteran from Grand Rapids, Michigan (home to Buell’s new HQ), previously worked on Buell motorcycles and brings that same level of detail to the helmet’s high-performance aesthetic.
Buell Motorcycle Co., originally founded by engineer and AMA racer Erik Buell, has a storied history of high-performance American motorcycles. Following a relaunch in 2021, the brand returned with models like the Hammerhead superbike and the upcoming 175-horsepower Super Cruiser—a highly anticipated performance cruiser developed with Roland Sands Design. The new helmet draws its design cues directly from this groundbreaking model, incorporating Buell’s signature Pegasus logo and branding.

Built on the best-selling Mod Bandit platform, the helmet includes rider-friendly features such as:
DOT and ECE2205 certification
Forged carbon construction for strength and individuality
One-hand chin bar operation with open-position lock
Integrated sun shield and Pinlock-ready face shield
Communication system compatibility
Multiple intake and exhaust vents for airflow

According to Simpson’s Director of Motorcycle, Jamie Beckett, the decision to base the design on the Mod Bandit was simple: “We’re making modular helmets cool by combining practical functionality with the aggressive Bandit design. And the forged carbon we used on our Ghost Bandit was a massive hit, so we brought that same tech here.”
The first production run of the Simpson x Buell Mod Bandit will be limited to just 830 helmets—a tribute to Buell’s original 1983 launch. Orders open August 1, with deliveries expected in November. Early access will be granted to Buell email subscribers and Super Cruiser pre-order customers. The helmet will also be available later through Buell’s website and select dealers.
Buell CEO Bill Melvin summed up the collaboration perfectly: “This helmet reflects our shared racing heritage, American performance DNA, and passion for pushing boundaries.”
This partnership marks the beginning of a multi-year collaboration between Simpson and Buell—two brands born from racing, built for riders with an American spirit running coursing through our veins.
