Sturgis: 4th Annual Metzeler Supermoto Scheduled July 1-2

The City of Sturgis will once again host Supermoto racing in downtown Sturgis. This fan favorite, AMA sanctioned racing event has taken place in September in the past but is now scheduled to run during the Independence Day weekend, with racing on both Friday and Saturday.
A Supermoto race is a combination of road racing and motocross racing. The track is designed to use elements from both disciplines and includes dirt jumps as well as high speed flat stretches of pavement and hair pin turns. The course runs through the downtown area of Sturgis including Main Street, parking areas and side streets. Spectator areas are set up in numerous locations along the course where fans can get up close and personal with the racing action.

“We are very excited to be hosting this event,” said Jerry W. Cole, Director of the City of Sturgis Rally & Events Department. Never before have we had this kind of speed and horsepower competing right on Main Street. For the first time ever, MAVTV Motorsports Networks will be filming the entire race.” This race is part of the AMA Pro Series that kicked off in April at the Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield, California.
New in 2016 – Racers are invited to sharpen their skills on Friday, July 1 at 8:00 a.m. at the ‘DYMOND 43’ School featuring 3x AMA Champion Mickey Dymond. This is an on-track learning experience from one of the world’s top professional racers. If you have ever entertained the thought of racing with the pros you will not want to miss this opportunity. On Friday afternoon, the pro and amateur practice sessions will begin at 4:00 p.m. and racing will begin at 6:00 p.m. On Saturday, racing will begin at 10:00 a.m. featuring professional riders from all over the U.S. and Canada. Amateurs from around the region will get the opportunity to show off their skills both days.
“Sturgis Supermoto is one of the only events in the world where you can sit on Main Street and have lunch 10 feet away from a race track. We want to create a first-class event for the competitors as well as the spectators” said Cole. “It’s going to be a racing experience we hope people won’t soon forget. We will also have some of our best local talent competing and we’re hoping that our racing community will come out and support them.”
This is a fantastic, FREE, Family Friendly event that is appropriate for all ages. Fireworks will take place on Saturday night following the Awards Ceremony.

Gage McAllister is shooting for his third-straight title.

Gage McAllister has been a dominant force in the AMA Supermoto paddock. The Northern California racer has taken back-to-back Pro Open titles in the National Championship and had a near perfect season last year. To add to it, McAllister also took home another number one plate in road racing, MotoAmerica’s KTM RC 390 Cup Championship. Needless to say, 2015 was a good year for the young McAllister.
