Women’s Riding Apparel | TC Road Gear
My beautiful wife Cindy was an exceptionally fashionable biker who adored leopard print. Leopard Harley Davidson, leopard helmet, leopard backpack – she had it all. On a whim, I decided to secretly make her a pair of leopard print chaps. I snatched her leather chaps and a bolt of leopard print fabric (which we of course had laying around the house), and dashed off to the dressmaker, where we crafted a pair of leopard motorcycle chaps. A few weeks later, Cindy and I had a bike rally to go to, which was the perfect opportunity to give them to her. She loved them, but was even more thrilled by all of the attention she attracted from other female bikers! They were raving over these chaps, wondering where they could purchase a pair and if other patterns were available. This was our lightbulb moment. We recognized a tremendous need for stylish female biker gear, and instantly knew this idea had vast potential.
Cindy and I put immense thought into launching a chaps product line, but because we both worked full-time jobs and had no experience in product design, manufacturing, and marketing, things just didn’t move forward as we had hoped. Slowly but surely, our idea was clouded by our careers and pastimes. In an unexpected moment, our lives were thrown into a complete whirlwind when Cindy became extremely ill. We completely abandoned the product line as we focused on Cindy. Despite tireless efforts and a hard fight, Cindy’s health went on a quick and steep decline. Shortly thereafter, she lost her life and I lost my heart.
I recently met up with two of my good buddies, who encouraged me find my footing, and once again pursue the idea of a women’s chaps product line. It wouldn’t be easy, but I knew that I needed to do it. For Cindy. I found a local company, LA New Product Development Team, to assist me in designing and marketing the chaps and other future products. I named the brand ‘TC Road Gear’ (Tommy and Cindy Road Gear), dedicated to the memory of my wife, for her bold style, fearlessness, and independence.
On Saturday, November 19th, TC Road Gear had a soft launch of our product line at the Spam Run event at Fuds. We presented a collection of three different chap designs (leopard, snake, and solid white), with the goal of gathering customer feedback and evaluating the product’s desirability before launching the line to the general public. The female riders adored the chaps. Leopard print, of course, was the most popular.
We know that there’s a long and winding road ahead, but are so looking forward to bringing new styles to the biker community.
In loving memory of Cindy.
Best regards, Tommy Gay.
