2000 Dyna Low Rider – Bub’s Silk Purse

Here at Hot Bike, we get a lot of rides-Harleys, hogs, whatever you want to call them-submitted by our readers. Pick of the Pen is an opportunity to dedicate a few pages to our favorite reader-submitted bike each month. This month’s Pick of the Pen comes to us from Jim Harp.
This bike started its first makeover in ’02 with new paint and a 180 tire on the back. After a few years, I got the bug for a bigger tire and new paint. In March ’06 we stopped in Daytona to check out fat tire kits for Dynas. There wasn’t much out there, so we talked with Mark from Hawg Halters (HHI) and he showed me his version with a 240 in the back. After summer was over here in Michigan, I got together with Justin Maes and Phil Easterby at Port Huron Harley-Davidson, and the project started with the disassembly. That’s when I hooked up with Josh Ellison at J.E. Illusions for the work on the paint, frame, and swingarm. After lots of phone time and e-mails, a plan was hatched, and you can see the end result across these pages. Special thanks to Justin and Phil at Port Huron H-D, Breanne at J.E. Illusions, Mark at HHI, and most of all, thanks to Lisa, my personal secretary. Without her computer skills I would be lost in cyberspace.
