If you’re going to be riding around during Biketoberfest, October 16-19, in Daytona Beach, Florida, there’s a new law that took effect on October 1st that you should be aware of. The State of Florida’s new law concerning motorcycle riding (HB 137) requires that riders keep both wheels on the ground or else face stiff penalties. The law also includes that a bike’s license tag be affixed horizontally, OR ELSE….
No, seriously folks, the bill has been in the works for quite some time, originally introduced by State Representative Carlos Lopez-Cantera after witnessing riders wheelying and cutting through traffic/riding dangerously on a ride-along with Miami police. The bill created some opposition in the motorcycle community for unfairly targeting motorcyclists. You can learn more and check out what’s going on at this year’s rally including news and festivities at the Biketoberfest website.
