Bound By Blood – A custom 2010 Harley-Davidson Road King
The inspiration for custom motorcycles varies in meaning from person to person. Some people might see a movie that changes their life and choose to use that as a basis for a build. Others might be a hard-core fan of a sports team or even choose a significant automobile to use as an influence. Randy Garcia grew up around lowriders and the lifestyle associated with it. When it came time to build his 2010 Road King he looked no further than his own family to show him the path to follow.

What makes a lowrider bike stand apart from the other customs in the corral can be summed up easily with one thing: the finish. Looking closely at the paint on Randy’s bike, and it is immediately noticeable the realistic airbrushing from up-and-coming artist Edgar Rodriguez of Maxima Imagen. Edgar is becoming known as the go-to guy when it comes to custom lowrider paintwork and airbrushing, and Randy’s murals are the perfect example of why. The piece on the front fender is a stoic-looking American Indian bust complete with full headdress. “The bike is a tribute to my father Rudolph F. Garcia,”

Randy explains. “The Indians on the bike are an Apache tribute to my dad’s heritage. The portrait on the front fender is the way I remembered him as ‘The Chief.’”
Scrolled across the bags are equally impressive works of art that also hold true to Randy’s heart. “On the right bag are my brothers and I pictured back to back,” Randy says. “They are portrayed like this because that’s the way we live our lives, always watching out for each other.” All the murals are tied together with the left bag that portrays a desert scene with three individuals atop horsebacks staring up into the desert sky with an ominous individual staring back down. “The left bag is my dad watching over me and my brother through fire.” The collection of images provides a powerful message and brings a personal significance to Randy each time the bike is ridden and displayed.
There is much more to a bike than just paint though. This 2010 Road King features all the necessary pieces that make it a West Coast lowrider, including 36-inch fishtail pipes, front and rear air ride, 21/18-inch Ride White wheels with Metzeler whitewall tires, and a custom stereo powered by an iPhone. The hand-wrapped seat also pays respect to Randy’s Native American roots with an Indian head from a 1923 dime tooled into the leather by the Saddle Repair Shop.

While some themes of a bike might come and go as time passes, it’s unlikely that Randy will ever look back with regret on his choices. Trends come and trends go, but family and culture will always stand the test of time.
