First Come, First Served for this custom 2012 Harley-Davidson Road King
There’s no debate when it comes to question of whether Covingtons Customs (CC) can turn a wrench and produce some of the world’s craziest and most functional baggers. The double-C crew has been producing some of the best-looking show-quality bikes (that are also ridden hard) for more than two decades. Each year the shop produces one bike that serves as a rolling showcase of what is possible given a little bit of time and a decent amount of money. This 2012 Road King was purchased right off the showroom floor and immediately dismantled and prepped for a dose of CC treatment.

Covingtons is not scared of putting together a dirty 30 on any bike and to flex its big-wheel skills; that’s where this build started. In order to fit the huge Performance Machine Shock 30-inch wheel, the frame was raked 10 degrees and stretched 2 inches forward and 4.5 inches up. To keep the wheels a-turnin’ and a-burnin’ the motor was left to breathe through a Hi-Flow air cover, mixed with some help from a Vance & Hines Fuel Pak and then spit back out a custom Destroyer 2-into-1 exhaust. PM calipers with matching rotors were added to help slow the bike back down to a stop.
What separates the CC bikes from the rest of the other bikes on the boulevard has to be the attention to detail when it comes to the paintwork. Brandywine is a color best served hot under the sun, and the bike looks almost wet to the touch under the midday lights. Brian Loker once again laid down a series of tightly spaced stripes that give the black sections an almost carbon fiber appearance. The overall combination of flat and flake makes for a nice contrast that is truly unique and classy custom finish.

No custom is complete without the greatest hits blaring down the road. For the music department, a Pioneer head unit pushes some power through Arc Audio amplifiers and out a couple of Hertz speakers for the ultimate in music mastery.
Once the last bolt of the bike was turned and it was ready for display at this year Daytona Bike Week, it didn’t sit too long in the CC booth. Only minutes after rolling the Road King off the trailer did a curious buyer come strolling by.

Pass after pass, it was certain that he was interested, but was he willing to lay down the green to take the red beast back home? The answer turned out yes, and the bike was sold within hours of being displayed with just barely enough time to sneak away the bike for this quick photo shoot with Ashley Marie.
This ruby red Road King just goes to show when you put your foot forward wearing your best pair of shoes, make sure not to forget an overpriced toe tag. If the time is right and the bike is looking proper, you might be walking home barefoot with a pocket full of cash. Nice work, CC. Nice work.
