Thin is in. And while Harley’s latest model, the Softail Slim, is in all actuality anything but slim (when compared to other models both within and outside the Softail family) it is the company’s attempt to refine and pair down a Softail model to be more in line with the stripped-down bikes of the bobber era. Keeping things clean and simple front to rear, Harley-Davidson Senior Designer Casey Ketterhagen wanted to draw attention to the silhouette of the company’s iconic 45-degree engine. Granted the current 103ci Twin Cam may be a distant relative of the powerplants that were at the heart of those bobbed bikes of the past, the distinct rhythmic thump and raw mechanical nature of the 45-degree V-twin is still what makes a Harley a Harley.
