Super Hooligan Flat Track Races // Austin, Texas

Flat track in the middle of downtown Austin? Yes, sir!

It sounded like a crazy and fantastic idea when I first heard about it. Indian Motorcycle and Roland Sands Design wanted to hold a flat track race across the street from The Handbuilt Motorcycle Show. When I showed up to check out the track 24 hours in advance of the race, Brian Bell of IV League Flat Track and a crew were whipping up a racetrack with trucked-in dirt and some heavy machinery. It honestly didn’t look like much, but by race time the next day, a fun, challenging, and safe track was sitting smack dab in the middle of downtown Austin, Texas, on 5th Street.
The racing action was hot as the Texas day. Roland Sands on a Indian Scout Sixty took home the win in the headlining Super Hooligan “A” main.
Dimitri Coste from France took home the victory in the “B” main on another RSD Indian Scout Sixty.
Professional AMA Flat Track racer Stevie Bonsey came out to do battle on his Harley-Davidson XR750 in the Pro class the night before the Lone Star Half-Mile race and smoked to a victory, taking home the cash and glory.
All in all it was an amazing night of flat track racing not only because of the great race action but also because of the large and enthusiastic crowd lining the chain-link fences all night. Kudos to all who made it happen!

Dimitri Coste took a 23-hour flight from his home in France to race the Super Hooligan event aboard a Roland Sands Design Indian Scout. He went home with the win in the “B” main.

Chris Wiggins of Team Speed Merchant is always fast on his Sportster. He won his heat then got penalized for jumping the start during the Super Hooligan “A” main, where he then had to start from the third row and still finished fourth.
