It seems as if outfitting Dynas and old FXRs with fairings is all the rage right about now. So much so that Big Mike of BMC Motorcycle Company has introduced a complete kit that has all you need to get a badass FXR-style fairing on your bike and a ton of wind off your body.
BMC’s handmade fiberglass fairing is the same style FXRP and FXRT fairing that H-D discontinued years ago, but there are a few things in the kit that make it much better than finding an old one and trying to get it to fit on your newer-model bike.
The folks at Corbin in Hollister, California, construct the BMC fairing of fiberglass. It is of high quality, and it even has well nuts pre-installed for precise windshield and headlight cover fitment. The kit also comes with custom vent grilles, a windshield with clear headlight cover and rubber gasket, a fully assembled 7-inch headlight with bracket, and all chrome hardware. The standout of the BMC kit over other brands is how well the BMC bracket kit is made. It really made the installation and alignment of the fairing a snap. Follow along as our pal Jim at IMZZ Elite puts one of these fairing kits on our project Daily Dyna 2015 H-D Dyna Lowrider.

Here is the BMX Fairing kit as it comes delivered. It has everything you need to get it on your own FXR or Dyna.

With this ingenious mount, the BMC kit is true bolt-on affair with no drilling or any other fabrication to get it on the bike.

Once the main bracket was on the bike Jim held the fairing up to the bike to get some quick measurements.

The headlight bracket is also what holds the fairing onto the bike. It is an essential piece to this puzzle.

As you can see, the headlight bracket sandwiches the fairing between itself and the BMC frame mount, which secures most parts of it to the bike.

To secure other parts of the fairing to the bike, BMC uses two upper and two lower support brackets, which attach to the main frame bracket.

Jim clamped all of the mounts into place and checked the alignment of it on the bike.

Once it deemed to be legit Jim then drilled all of the mounting holes with a right-angle drill into the fairing.

The windshield was installed at this point using the provided hardware.

When everything checked out to be on the straight and narrow, Jim got busy and bolted it all up.

Once the pre-fitting of the fairing was complete, it was off to the paint booth.

The Fairing comes from BMC with most of the bodywork done, but the guys at IMZZ are perfectionists, so it spent some time in the booth getting straight and smooth.

We used paint from ColorRite due to the fact that it comes in OEM colors and it is easy to spray. Good stuff indeed.

The silver, black, and red ColorRite paint scheme will mimic the stock Dyna Lowrider paint, but it will also add some old-school FXR flavor to the bike as well.

The inside of the fairing was also painted with ColorRite to match the stock Dyna Lowrider paint. We will be installing an audio system in this fairing in the next issue.

Once the paint was dried, buffed, and ready, Jim installed it on the bike and hooked up the provided 7-inch headlight.

The BMC headlight trim ring was then installed and tightened to factory specs.

The BMC outer light cover had the provided rubber gasket installed and the unit was fitted to the fairing.

The BMC outer headlight cover was affixed to the bike with four chrome button-head Allen bolts for a clean finish.

As you can see the BMC fairing looks great on the bike if you are into that kind of thing. And we totally are!
