Wheels and Waves has quickly become known as more than just your average moto show. From the surf contests to the races, the Southsiders who throw this event are definitely taking advantage of their beautiful surroundings in Biarritz, France.
Punk’s Peak is a sprint race that brings everything from old American choppers to weirdo little two-stroke machines to run up the hill as fast as they can. This year, we saw some well-known bikes and names running to the peak, including Dimitri Coste on the Indian FTR1200 Custom and Steve Caballero racing against Christian Hosoi–a showdown between two legendary skaters. Shinya Kimura showed up to race his distinct Ducati custom, and Toshiyuki “Cheetah” Osawa was hard to miss with his iconic cheetah-painted helmet and flathead H-D.
It seemed like everyone was more stoked to be out riding their bikes than they were concerned with winning, which is just the sort of vibe you’d expect from this laid-back, beach rally.
